About Me

My name is Janel DePew and I reside in the beautiful and "always something to do" state of Michigan.  My family and I enjoy all that the outdoors has to offer from hiking, boating, biking and snow-tubing.

I originally graduated from Ferris State University with an A.A.S. degree in Industrial Chemistry Technology.  I worked at the Dow Chemical Company, Midland, MI for nine years where I began developing my skills in first phase pharmaceutical batch processing and then tried my hand at customer service and laboratory management in which I excelled.  Although my scientific and analytical talents were greatly documented, it was through these different positions that I discovered I had an affinity for communications, facilitating teams and conveying data to improve operations, project management and customer satisfaction.

My most recent career experience over the last nine years has been in the arena of program approval and accreditation for teacher preparation programs at several schools/colleges of education (Ferris State University, Grand Valley State University and University of Michigan - Flint Campus).  Education is a passion for me as I believe it is the foundation for ending human suffering.  Accreditation for these teacher preparation programs involves instituting assessment not only at the student and faculty performance level, but reaches far into the communities where these universities reside, the condition of the local school systems, the quality of field experiences and an overriding goal of integrating the value of diversity within all facets of a program.  My primary positions have been to provide systems that not only collect this information, but processes in which to report achievement and feedback loops for continuous reflection.

I also own and operate my own web development and print design business, SavvyWeb.biz.  I started moonlighting in web design and development back in 2004 and officially filed as a business in 2005.  I've created web solutions for various businesses and industries from sole proprietors to school districts.  My  philosophy for web design is that a web site should not just be aesthetically pleasing - it needs to work and provide an income or viable service for the client and users.
